  • I've only ever owned a keyboard with red switches and I can't get enough of them. I use them for gaming since that was the original driving factor, but since then I have really enjoyed typing on red switches.

I feel that red switches are fine for typing, although popular opinion would disagree. More resistance with a tactile click seems like it would add more irritation. I was tempted to try browns since they're similar in required pressure, but decided I'm perfectly happy with linear.

I was also tempted to try Gateron switches since they're a little cheaper, but I'm not buying a massive shipment and you can trust the Cherry name.

I bought a few Gateron clears before trying to assemble my keyboard and I threw a few in on this board on the less used keys to see what I thought. The keycaps seem to wobble just slightly more than the Cherry keycaps, which might be saying more about the keycaps. The Gateron switches also do not have plastic prongs that insert into the PCB. The Cherry switches just feel really solid and trustworthy. I don't see myself converting to Gateron anytime soon.

Out of a batch of 70, I think I have one switch that has a very slight scratchy feel. I intend to see what I can do with some lube to resolve that.
